Express shipment company DHL is creating a new office of humanitarian affairs and emergency management for its operations in the Americas and is appointing Dan Ludwig as senior vp to oversee this new post.
Ludwig will be responsible for providing corporate leadership, strategy and execution for the DHL response to major disaster events, with his office coordinating all DHL emergency management efforts throughout the Americas region and across business units, said John Mullen, CEO for DHL Express Americas
“Building up our emergency management capabilities will help minimize the impact on our customers, our business, and our employees,” he noted. This new office should “help formalize emergency planning and response process for DHL, and to ensure we can deliver on our commitments to our customers and the communities throughout the Americas in which we work,” added Mullen.
Ludwig has more than 18 years experience in the transportation and logistics industry, including logistics operations management and lead management for major strategic change projects. Prior to the acquisition of the Exel logistics company in 2005 by Deutsche Post World Net, DHL's parent company, Ludwig held senior positions with Exel in the areas of Freight Management, Financial Management and Supply Chain Services.
