A pilot program to inspect the exhaust emissions of trucks crossing the U.S.-Mexico border at the Mariposa port of entry in Nogales, AZ is slated to begin Mar. 11. The three-week program is sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Arizona Dept. of Environmental Quality.
Officials will use an advanced infrared and ultraviolet remote sensing technology, developed by Environmental Systems Products Inc., to measure truck exhaust without pulling vehicles off the road.
The pilot program will be used to help determine the value of an ongoing truck inspection program as a way to reduce pollution.
