Express delivery provider Airborne Express is extending its ground delivery service to small business shipping customers through its Internet shipping system, AirborneExchange. The company said the move is part of a strategy to go beyond its traditional high-volume, large corporate customer base.

"We are now giving small business customers greater accessibility to our full portfolio of shipping options," said Rich Corrado, Airborne's senior vp of marketing.

Using an existing linehaul-sort hub network, Seattle-based Airborne's ground delivery service taps into the same systems available through its express services, especially its scanning system. Ground delivery shipments are guaranteed to arrive within one to five business days, depending on the distance traveled, said Airborne.
