The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) has expanded its guaranteed intermodal service to include one additional lane to and from Chicago and two lanes into and out of Kansas City, MO. With the additional lanes, BNSF said it now offers guaranteed intermodal service in 15 lanes connecting major markets from Tennessee to the West Coast of the United States.

Ft. Worth-based BNSF began offering guaranteed intermodal service last May to allow shippers to purchase, for a premium, a service guarantee for international, domestic and perishable intermodal shipments in these 15 lanes. For each load that does not meet the scheduled availability time for customer pick-up, BNSF offers a 100% refund.

Steve Branscum, group vp for BNSF's consumer products marketing department, said the railroad offers a money-back guarantee on certain intermal lanes to attract shippers that typically use over-the-road trucking service to move freight.
