Con-Way to provide truckload brokerage

Less-than-truckload specialist Con-Way Transportation Services has opened a truckload brokerage operation – called Con-Way Full Load – that will provide service within the United States, and between the U.S. and Canada.

Con-Way said contract arrangements have been made with over 2,000 truckload fleet operators, which operate approximately 25,000 pieces of equipment. Con-Way added that its Full Load service would initially offer only dry van service. Service will be available around the clock, the carrier added.

Gerald L. Detter, president & CEO of Con-Way, said providing truckload brokerage will not be a stretch for the primarily LTL-based company. "We contract with truckload carriers regularly for a portion of our linehaul service in our LTL operations, and we also manage a large group of contract operators in our Con-Way Now expedited service," he said. "This experience has given us the expertise and systems necessary to manage a very substantial truckload brokerage operation."

Con-Way is a $2 billion transportation subsidiary of CNF, based in Palo Alto, CA.
