The average price at the pump for a gallon of diesel fuel fell 2.7 cents this week to $1.444, according to the U.S. Dept. of Energy.
The department's Energy Information Administration (EIA) said the price has fallen 5.9 cents since spiking to $1.503 on August 25, and is at its lowest price since it hit $1.438 on July 28.
According to EIA, drivers in the Lower Atlantic states are paying the least at $1.380 a gallon, while California drivers are paying $1.609.
Only two other regions – the East Coast (1.443) and the Midwest (1.426) had prices under the national average.
