Heartland Express predicts solid earnings

Truckload carrier Heartland Express, based in Coralville, IA, expects to report earnings per share for the fourth quarter of 2001that will range from 30- to 31-cents per share, with earnings per share for the year expected to range from $1.18 to $1.19. The carrier added that it believes the consensus of the five stock analysts with published estimates is 27 cents for the quarter and $1.15 for the year ended December 31, 2001.

Russell Gerdin, CEO and principle stockholder of Heartland, added in a separate filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that he and his Gerdin Charitable Foundation plan to offer 3,450,000 shares in company common stock for sale.
