Index Sensors and Controls has released a “first-of-its-kind” cycle-limiting device, the ACX-10 air conditioning life extender for heavy-duty vehicles.

According to Index, the device is a compact control module mounted in the engine compartment that communicates with a vehicle’s A/C system.

It protects A/C components against premature failure by monitoring refrigerant pressure and voltage to prevent rapid cycling that can prematurely wear the compressor, clutch and hoses. When needed, Index said the ACX-10 slows down the cycle rate to 15 seconds, cutting cycle frequency by as much as 80%.

Index noted the device can be retrofitted to most vehicles in three easy steps, and usually in less than 30 minutes.
