LAS VEGAS – Trailer lock maker Kaba Mas is working on a new trailer security device that taps into the air brake system to prevent a trailer from being moved if hijacked.

“We’re only in the initial development stages now, but the concept is that if the locking mechanism on the trailer is broken open, a signal sent to the air brakes ‘locks’ the trailer axles so it can’t be moved,” Tom Stout, Kaba Mas’ national sales manager, told Fleet Owner here at The Truck Show.

“We’re working on this system primarily for fleets that need the ultimate in security – those hauling munitions, hazardous materials, nuclear waste, etc.,” he explained. “Obviously, there are some issues to work around. But it’s another way we’re trying to offer a greater level of trailer security to trucking operators.”
