According to i2 Technologies Inc., Michaels Stores Inc. has selected i2's FreightMatrix transportation management suite to synchronize and manage transportation processes between suppliers, distribution centers and stores. Michaels, an arts and craft retailer, also licensed i2 Transportation Modeler and i2 Supply Chain Strategist from the i2 Supply Chain Management suite of solutions.

After experiencing the third straight year of net income increases exceeding 25%, Michaels said it recognized the need to implement an advanced transportation management solution to more effectively manage and analyze its growing business. Michaels' transportation network includes more than 2,000 suppliers, five distribution centers and 699 stores.

"The i2 FreightMatrix service-based ASP option was a perfect fit because it provides robust functionality that should allow us to achieve quick time-to-value," said Steve Gartner, senior vp, Logistics, Michaels Stores. "We hope to maximize our competitive advantages through gaining greater efficiency and visibility within the supply chain."

FreightMatrix is designed for small to mid-sized companies as well as large shippers and 3PL providers who wish to deploy a complete Web-based transportation solution through a proven service-based option. It allows companies to increase customer service levels while simultaneously reducing total freight costs.
