High Point, North Carolina-based MGM Transport Corp. announced that the company has purchased 31 new Volvo trucks to expand its fleet at a cost of $3.2 million. Company President Edward Massood said the Volvo contract was not at the lowest cost but allows MGM to maintain a long-standing relationship with the company which has its U.S. headquarters in Greensboro.
MGM, which specializes in hauling furniture industry, also has agreed to add 125 specially equipped Great Dane trailers during the next 18 months.
The company recently stretched its service area to Florida, South Carolina and Georgia. A distribution center was opened in California in July to channel shipments to the High Point facility. MGM also maintains centers in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts. The fleet now has about 235 tractors and 700 trailers.
