PeopleNet Communications has released PerformX, a new vehicle diagnostics product that monitors vehicles' engines designed to help fleet owners better manage operating costs.

Through a system of alarms and reports, managers can view vehicle performance data at regular intervals, then use the data to make changes that increases fleet efficiency.

"In order to reduce operating costs, fleet owners must be able to monitor vehicle performance," said PeopleNet CTO Vikas Jain. "PerformX allows them to measure and compare vehicles' performance to reduce operating costs and improve efficiency."

PerformX communicates with the engine's J1708 data bus. Fleet managers can run performance reports on this data while the vehicle is on the road. The reports, which measure things such as odometer readings, idle time, fuel efficiency, excess speed and high RPM readings, allow managers to analyze the data between vehicles as well as for a single vehicle over time to improve vehicle performance.

PerformX is offered as an option to PeopleNet's Intouch G2X, which offers GPS satellite locating technology, in-cab e-mail and voice communication capabilities to connect everyone in a fleet's supply chain. G2X also addresses the problem of outdated or obsolete communications and tracking through unique over-the-air-programming.
