Denton, TX-based Peterbilt said SteelLite X30 brake drums have a one-piece steel shell that is stronger and lighter than standard full-cast brake drums with no weld seam for added durability and ready-to-mount convenience.
Additionally, said Peterbilt, the drum's cast-iron braking surface resists hot-spotting and heat-checking, helping the brake lining seat more quickly, to reduce the number of high-stress cycles during the drum's break-in period.
The package also reduces vehicle weight vs. standard brake drums by up to 15 lbs. on the steer axle and 70 lbs. per rear axle, the OEM added.
