Marmon-Herrington Co. has introduced Safe-T-Shift, which prevents a driver from shifting at the wrong time, the number one cause of drivetrain failures, company officials said.
Marmon-Herrington has begun including the Safe-T-Shift in all conversion kits in November and is currently installing the feature on the first 30 trucks at its Louisville headquarters.
Enclosed in a small black box inside the truck, a computer recognizes movement and disables shifting. When the truck is stopped, the computer records no motion and allows the operator to engage or disengage the front axle or to shift into high/low drive settings. The driver cannot override the system. For information: www.marmon-herrington.com .
