California's Amber Alert system has been expanded to include notification to truckers statewide of child abductions, the California Highway Patrol and California Trucking Assn. (CTA) announced.

Alerts about missing children from the police will be passed along to CTA's 2,000 member companies and some 38,000 truckers. Each company will contact its drivers using radios, cell phones or satellite phones, said CTA vp Warren Hoemann.

Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante said the partnership will help authorities in searches late at night, when most motorists on California's highways are truck drivers.
