Transportation Safety Technologies (TST) has announced development of a trailer-only obstacle detection system.

"We are developing the trailer system in response to customer requests in the truckload and LTL markets," president & CEO Michael P. Coyle said. "Our customers have said that this will be valuable to fleets that constantly mix tractors and trailers."

The new trailer-only obstacle detection system will consist of two rear mounted ultrasonic sensors and a display mounted on the left front of the trailer. The display will be visible in the driver’s left rear-view mirror.

The system will alert the driver to objects that are directly behind the trailer where the driver cannot see them. The system will alert the driver when something is within 10 feet of the back of the trailer.

The trailer-only system will use the same technology and sensors as the full Eagle Eye Obstacle Detection System.
