LOUISVILLE, KY— Volvo Trucks North America announced that it will spec the Bendix ABS-6 antilock brake system as standard on its VN and VHD trucks. The OEM will offer the Bendix ABS-6 Advanced with ESP (electronic stability program) as an option on these vehicles when the technology is launched in early 2005.

According to Bendix, ESP “responds to both low- and high-friction surface stability scenarios to help reduce the risk of jackknifes and rollovers in a full range of driving conditions.” Volvo explains that the advanced ABS system works by selectively applying the brakes on individual wheel ends, depending on driving conditions, vehicle speed and other inputs from onboard sensors.”

Volvo will offer the Bendix ABS-6 in three configurations: 4 wheel-speed sensors and 4 barke modulators (4S 4M); 6 sensors and 4 modulators (6S 4M); and 6 sensors and 6 modulators (6S 6M).
