Alabama-based Webb Wheel Products has added a brake drum to its Platinum Series product line, available for all popular truck and trailer axles, with additional applications to follow.

The Platinum brake drum was developed utilizing a new material for which Webb has a patent pending, the company said. The product is said to deliver extended life through low wear, resistance to heat-checking and exceptional strength.

Webb said its laboratory testing found that the high heat-transfer properties of the material combined with its high strength allows it to offer the industry a lightweight brake drum that exceeds the performance of a standard brake drum. Results from fleet testing are expected to corroborate these findings, the company said.
