Xata Corp. today announced it has signed a wireless reseller agreement with Cingular Interactive L.P., a unit of Cingular Wireless, to allow Xata to offer Mobitex-based, packet-switched, wireless communications technology as part of its Xata Onboard and XataNet product plans.

The new plans, based on customer usage, are designed to be more cost-effective than standard retail plans for low- and high-use customers.

"This gives our customers more choices for controlling their wireless costs," said Xata president & CEO Bill Files. "It also allows them to manage their hardware, software, service and wireless data needs through a single Xata contact."

Xata said its existing customers operate about 1,000 wireless units on the Cingular network.
