The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA) published a number of technical amendments to its Final Rule on cargo securement (49 CFR Part 393) in the June 22 Federal Register.

Specifically, the amendments address manufacturing standards for tiedowns, as well as cargo securement requirements for dressed lumber, metal coils, paper rolls, intermodal containers and flattened cars.

The amended Final Rule is effective July 24, 2006. FMCSA published its original Final Rule on cargo securement on Sept. 22, 2002.
