Pierce Manufacturing, Inc., a subsidiary of Oshkosh Truck Corp., will be adding a tactical water filtration truck to its existing line of custom fire apparatus and other rescue and specialty trucks.
The company signed an exclusive five-year agreement with Florida-based Ecosphere Technologies, Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of UltraStrip Systems, Inc., to manufacture, market and deliver the truck-mounted, high-volume, water filtration system to the military, homeland security and disaster recovery markets.
According to a news release, the new truck was developed to help state and federal agencies meet their needs under the Bioterrorism Act of 2002 and can also be used to respond to natural disasters, such as hurricanes and earthquakes. Ecosphere’s filtration system is designed to clean both bio-toxin polluted waters and highly contaminated seawater. It will be mounted on a six-wheel drive Pierce chassis designed for extreme off-road use, including the ability to operate in and ford through up to four feet of water and traverse 60-degree slopes.
