A liquid propane injection 8.1-liter engine will be offered in commercial fleets through select General Motors medium-duty truck dealers. The new engine was developed by bus maker Blue Bird Corp. thanks in part to a $859,000 research grant from the propane industry and more than $1 million in additional grants.

The engine features a low emissions certification and a 270 hp @ 3,600 rpm rating. According to the propane industry, the engine emits 50% fewer non-methane hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxide than the 2007 ceiling established by the EPA for medium-duty trucks and buses.
