Zonar Systems is developing a radio frequency identification (RFID) inspection system to spot brake problems on large trucks and buses

Zonar Systems is developing a radio frequency identification (RFID) inspection system to spot brake problems on large trucks and buses. This is thanks to its partnership with Spectra Inc. to co-develop an RFID-based brake diagnostics system.

The final product will be a system that uses brake sensors mounted on key truck and bus locations with an RFID verified visual inspection system. A hand-held electronic monitor will “check in” each sensor position, report potential problems, and input the information to a central database. This will be done with a “simple push-button test,” Zonar said.

The Zonar-Spectra inspection system will work on all air brake equipped trucks, buses, and container chassis and will be easily usable by drivers for pre- and post-trip safety inspections, Zonar said.
