Schneider National to host career fair to hire 100 drivers

Schneider National Inc. is seeking 100 drivers within a 75-mile radius of DeWitt, IA primarily to haul for glass manufacturer Guardian Industries. Schneider will host a career fair to fill these over-the-road driving positions within 30 days.

Most newly-hired employees will work for Schneider National’s Specialized division to haul flat glass from Guardian’s DeWitt facility. Additional driver positions are available to serve other Schneider customers in the region, including Family Dollar in Maquoketa.

“The current shortage of drivers across the transportation industry, combined with the increase in Guardian and other customers’ overall outbound shipments, has prompted the need for a substantial increase in owner-operators and Specialized drivers in the region,” said Rob Reich, Schneider’s vp—enterprise recruiting.

Schneider offers a comprehensive company-paid training program. Inexperienced drivers are encouraged to apply and will earn an average of $30,500 to $39,500 in their first year. Experienced drivers will earn an average of $43,500 to $54,000 per year. Owner-operators leasing with Schneider will average $135,000 to $145,000 annually.

Schneider Specialized is a carrier in the industrial glass industry, hauling flat glass on flatbed and specialized trailers.

The free career fair will be held on March 3, 2005, from 9 am to 7 pm at the Holiday Inn Convention Center, 5202 Brady St. in Davenport. Presentations about the company and employment opportunities will be held at 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm and 4 pm.
