Alaska West Express, a division of the Lynden family of companies, has received the Alaska Safe Truck Fleet of the Year Award for local cartage from the Alaska Trucking Assn. and Conoco-Phillips.
Jim Maltby, director of health, safety, security and environmental for Alaska West Express, said the company earned the award for its safety performance in 2010, including accident rates, driver training and safety programs and vehicle maintenance.
“We haul a variety of loads, including hazardous chemicals and petroleum products, so we take safety very seriously,” Maltby said.
Alaska West Express provides truckload transport and liquid- and dry-bulk products throughout the U.S. and Canada and specializes in trucking to Alaska. It has terminals in Anchorage, Fairbanks and Tacoma. It also operates a training center and offers classes in hazardous materials transport, emergency response and workplace safety.
