A new program being offered by J.J. Keller seeks to clarify what the FMCSA’s Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) initiative is about and why non-drivers in a company need to understand the program.

CSA: What You Need to Know For Non-Driving Personnel takes company personnel beyond driving and identifies how CSA affects everyone’s jobs, according to Keller. Topics include hours of service and what it means for dispatchers; why employees must know which drivers can transport which materials; regulations that impact the vehicle maintenance BASIC; hiring and retaining good drivers; administrative support and early detection of problems; and how to inform shippers and receivers why unsafe demands cannot be met.

“Educating non-driving staff about how they can contribute to a positive CSA score is vital to a carrier's success,” said Robert Rose, J. J. Keller’s transport management editor. “That’s because it’s not just drivers who can trigger an FMCSA intervention. All employees can have an impact on a carrier’s CSA scores and the likelihood of an intervention.”

The program is supplied on a 32-minute training DVD that includes a “message for management.” Additional tools include a discussion guide, 11 employee handbooks, and a poster entitled “CSA Carrier Scoring: An Overview.”
