ArvinMeritor has introduced a new family of trailing arm air suspensions for platform, tank, dump and other vocational trailer applications. The first Meritor Trailing-Arm Air (MTA) suspension — a 23,000-lb.-capacity, top-mount model — goes into full production this fall. It will be followed by five other top- and low-mount models with capacities up to 30,000 lbs., all produced at ArvinMeritor's trailer axle plant in Frankfort, KY.

Technology highlights for the new air-ride includes a patented pivot bushing designed to provide a soft ride while also offering firm lateral control for good roll stability and improved tire wear; larger shock absorbers specifically tuned for the MTA; and a new axle wrap design that cuts weight while improving durability.

Replacing the company's current RFS Series of trailing-arm air suspensions, the new MTA also features integrated Meritor Q Plus cam or air-disc brakes. Other integrated options include ArvinMeritor's automatic slack adjusters, SteelLite drum and lightweight hub, and the Meritor Tire Inflation System.

Warranty for the MTA will be 5 yrs./ 500,000 mi.
