I was pleasantly surprised to read an article in Fleet Owner [“First Person,” 1/10, pg. 26] actually questioning the California Air Resources Board — even though the writing was soft and well short of the tongue lashing that CARB deserves. I have spent the last few months reading and researching anything and everything regarding this agency and the more I learn, the more disgusted I become.

Basically, the Board consists of a bunch of unaccountable public employees imposing their will and dismissing all naysayers. Rules and regulations are passed based on weak science, data that's questionable at best. You touched on the researcher with false credentials; you left out the part about not being fired. He is still employed earning $8,000 a month (our tax dollars).

And the statement about California having the dirtiest air in the nation? The computer model used to base the killer PM shows the Ohio/Virginia area, not California, as an area of concern. It's okay. When their pension benefits dry up from the lack of taxable business, maybe then CARB will realize the mess they invented.
