Groups opposing heavier trucks have their say

Opposition is ramping up efforts to block plans to boost the federal weight limit on Interstate highways to 91,000 lbs.

Groups such as the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Assn., Truck Safety Coalition, and Truckload Carriers Assn. have written letters to members of the U.S. House of Representatives, including U.S. Rep. Reid Ribble (R-WI), who recently introduced the Safe, Flexible, and Efficient (SAFE) Trucking Act, which would allow heavier rigs with an additional axle.

Fleet Owner’s sister publication, American Trucker, dug into comments from the groups and found that not everyone is in favor of heavier trucks.
