Motiv Power Systems’ all-electric system to power Ford F-59 stripped chassis

March 6, 2015

INDIANAPOLIS. The all-electric powertrain from Motiv Power Systems is now available on the Ford F-59 stripped chassis, the company announced.

Motiv made the announcement this week at the NTEA’s Work Truck Show in conjunction with an announcement that linen supplier AmeriPride has ordered six of the vehicles.

The electrified F-59 has a range of up to 100 mi. with a GVWR of 22,000 lbs. It comes with a three year/36,000 mi. warranty for both the Motiv powertrain and Ford chassis.

According to Motiv, vehicles equipped with its system reduce total operating costs by up to 87% compared to a diesel truck.

“AmeriPride is once again demonstrating their leadership in advancing cost-effective zero-emission vehicles, by placing an order to put cutting edge vehicle technologies on the road,” said Motiv Founder and CEO Jim Castelaz. “Today, the vast majority of trucks and buses are completely dependent on fossil fuel. Combine this with unpredictability of fuel prices and increasing health concerns over toxic emissions and their contribution to climate change and it’s clear that a shift is needed. We look forward to demonstrating that these zero-emission electric trucks are just as reliable and durable as diesel ones, with much lower total cost of ownership.”

The all-electric powertrain includes the Motiv electric Powertrain Control System (ePCS), batteries, motor, charger, heating, air conditioning and other components. It is installed via ship-through and requires minimal modification to the body and final vehicle design while maintaining performance. It includes universal charging compatibility and secure remote telematics and diagnostics, the company explained.
