Trailer side skirts from TransFoil Systems have achieved U.S. EPA SmartWay verification for increasing fuel economy by at least 5%, the company said.
According to Transfoil, the skirts “underwent extensive testing under controlled conditions with the testing supervised by an independent third-party engineering firm.”
“The results exceeded even our own expectations. The aerodynamic skirts returned a fuel savings in excess of 10%, which is best-in-class performance,” said company spokesperson Matt Williams.
The skirts are made of aluminum composite and are mounted using spring-in and hinge-out easy swap mounts, the company said.
Obtaining the SmartWay Verification enables the company's customers to qualify under the California Air Resources Board requirements.
“We know that it’s important that our skirts meet the ARB requirements, but just as important is the fact that customers will save on their most significant operational cost: fuel consumption,” said Williams. “We are receiving inquiries from all over the country and even from fleets who have no intentions of entering the state of California.”
