Veolia deploys CNG trucks in Indiana

April 17, 2012

Veolia ES Solid Waste, the solid waste division of Veolia Environmental Services North America, has deployed a fleet of compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks in Evansville, IN. The trucks will service the Vanderburgh County area.

During a ceremony at Veolia’s Evansville facility, the company also unveiled a CNG fueling station. The facility will operate 20 Autocar CNG chassis and eight Kenworth roll-off trucks. The trucks are expected to produce 15% less noise in addition to running CNG, which produces 29% less carbon dioxide than oil and is 90% cleaner than diesel, the company said.

“We’re very pleased to be the first waste hauler to bring CNG technology to Indiana,” said Jim Long, president & CEO of Veolia ES Solid Waste, Inc. “Veolia recognizes that the Evansville community is devoted to sustainability and protecting our environment. Since CNG is much cleaner and more efficient than diesel, our customers can be assured that their waste service provider is helping to protect our environment and reduce pollution.”

The trucks are equipped with automated collection systems. The new CNG fleet is supported in part by a $500,000 grant from Clean Cities through the Indiana Office of Energy Development.

Veolia operates four CNG fueling stations and over 100 CNG-powered refuse collection and support vehicles in North America.
