Closures expected to create major traffic delays in Kansas City Metro area

March 6, 2013

The Kansas Dept. of Transportation has issued a traffic alert to ramp and lane closures in the Kansas City Metro area this beginning Thursday through the weekend that are expected to create major delays.

Following ramp and lane closures are scheduled:

  • I-435 & I-35 Interchange – The Eastbound and westbound I-435 to southbound I-35 ramps will be closed for sawing and concrete pavement repair work beginning at 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 and reopening to unrestricted traffic at 5 a.m. on Friday, March 8.
  • 24/7 weekend lane and ramp closures — Eastbound and westbound I-435 to southbound I-35 ramps will again be closed for sawing and concrete pavement repair work beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 8 and reopening to unrestricted traffic at 5a.m. on Monday, March 11. Also, southbound I-35 from Pflumm Road to 111th Street will be restricted to two through lanes for concrete pavement repair work during this same timeframe.
  • Advance message boards will direct I-435 traffic to detour north on I-35 to the 95th Street interchange then back to southbound I-35. Drivers should expect major delays during the ramp and lane closures and are advised to use alternate routes.

Updated daily traffic information for this project can be viewed online at www.ksdot.org/kcmetro/laneclose.asp.
