General Dynamics Canada and FleetMind Solutions have partnered to offer a new fleet management system for waste and recycling companies. The solution, announced at this week’s Waste Expo 2012, combines General Dynamics GD4010 ruggedized computing smart display which will host FleetMind’s software.
According to FleetMind, the solution will provide users with information on a truck’s load-weight, route status, service completion, vehicular telemetry, driver activities, and other vital information needed to optimize fleet productivity and control costs.
“Waste and recycling trucks demand a rugged display solution that can endure the most rigorous operational environments,” said Martin Demers, CEO of FleetMind. “The GD4010 will provide our waste and recycling customers with the most robust and toughest onboard computing platform in the market in a complete package that is both fully integrated and easy to install.”
The GD4010 displays are equipped with a 10.4-in. touchscreen, multiple video and audio input channels, streaming and snapshot video capture, multiple vehicle-bus interfaces, 4G and WiFi communications, VoIP capabilities, shock detection circuitry, multiple I/O ports, a solid state hard drive and the latest in mobile computing processors.

The GD4010 is part of the General Dynamics tactical computing and display product line for vehicle and handheld applications. The display manages a wide range of inputs from a vehicle’s onboard systems including cameras, scales, RFID readers, tire pressure and fuel monitoring as well as other devices.
The combined FleetMind and GD4010 solution allows drivers to see what material is being loaded, how much it weighs and much more for immediate detection of issues such as potential contamination or overweight situations. To improve fuel conservation and maintenance functions, the system collects telemetry data and feeds it back to the FleetMind FleetLink server and customer’s back-office for analysis and reporting. The system also provides dispatch with real-time insights into a truck’s location, route status and customer service verification.
