Omnitracs introduces driver MPG performance feedback, tire condition alerts

April 24, 2014
Omnitracs, LLC recently announced the upcoming availability of MPG performance information on its Mobile Computing Platform 110 (MCP110) and 200 (MCP200) user interface, permitting fleets to provide drivers with instant feedback concerning their current MPG. The update will be available this summer at no additional charge to fleets subscribing to Omnitracs’ Performance Monitoring application.

Omnitracs, LLC recently announced the upcoming availability of MPG performance information on its Mobile Computing Platform 110 (MCP110) and 200 (MCP200) user interface, permitting fleets to provide drivers with instant feedback concerning their current MPG.

“Fuel consumption is a top expense for fleets—with this in mind, we worked to improve our existing platform and bring valuable MPG performance information to drivers in real-time,” said Vikas Jain, vice president of product management and general manager of software as a service at Omnitracs. “By empowering drivers with access to the right information at the right time, they will be able to make positive performance changes and see the resulting impact on their MPG performance in real-time, ultimately contributing to fleet-wide fuel savings.”

The company also added new high heat and fast leak tire condition alerts to its Tire Pressure monitoring application to offer customers a more comprehensive look at tire health maintenance for improved safety, fuel efficiency and reduced tire-related expenses. The high heat alert notifies drivers when a truck’s tires have exceeded safe tire temperatures, while the fast leak alert informs drivers if tire pressure drops, indicating a detected leak.

The driver receives the high heat and fast leak alerts in near real time on the in-cab mobile device. An alert noting a change of status and a possible tire health issue is also delivered to the back office. By communicating the right information to the right people, these alerts are intended to enable fleets to take prompt and necessary action before a safety issue arises.

Offered on MCP200 and MCP110 in conjunction with supported tire pressure monitoring systems, the new alerts will be available in the summer of 2014 at no additional charge to customers subscribing to Omnitracs’ Tire Pressure Monitoring application.

The company also announced that Pilgrim’s Pride Corp., the second largest chicken producer in the United States, will deploy Omnitracs’ Mobile Computing Platforms (the MCP50 and satellite-enabled platform) across its entire fleet of 800 trucks by mid-May.

“By adopting a combination of Omnitracs MCP50 and satellite-enabled units, we can now ensure seamless information exchange between our drivers and dispatchers, which is essential to a smooth and efficient delivery process and, ultimately, better customer satisfaction,” said Jim Bliss, IT business analyst at Pilgrim’s Pride. “Omnitracs was the only solution provider that could offer us ubiquitous coverage—coupled with the most proactive and responsive customer service—thereby enhancing our overall business operations and productivity.”

Omnitracs has been steadily increasing usage among private fleets, Dave Bethers, director of sales for Omnitracs, told Fleet Owner during a visit at the National Private Truck Council (NPTC) Education Management Conference and Exhibition held in Cincinnati this month.

The company’s commitment to the private fleet market was underscored by the fact that five additional Omnitracs employees successfully completed the NPTC Certified Transportation Professional (CTP) program. The CTP designation is a benchmark of excellence in the private fleet market, awarded to transportation professionals who make the investment to enhance their industry knowledge related to operations, fleet finance, fleet equipment maintenance and management, safety and human resources.

“CTPs are raising industry standards and increasing the respect and prestige of the transportation profession,” said Monica Wyly, director of product management at Omnitracs. “Omnitracs’ growing pool of CTPs reinforces our continued commitment to advance systems and practices to better meet the unique needs and objectives of our private fleet customers."
