Descartes Systems Group (TSX:DSG) (Nasdaq:DSGX) has added telematics to its mobile resource management offerings with the acquisition of Telargo for $9.6 million. Telargo provides cloud-based software-as-a-service systems for monitoring vehicles and driver performance.
Adding remote telematics to its existing route planning and mobile resource management (MRM) systems, Descarte “can now offer customers a pre-integrated, end-to-end MRM solution that combines hardware and software and is delivered over the Descartes Global Logistics Network,” said Ed Ryan, the company’s chief commercial officer.
Telargo’s telematics offerings include onboard units and sensors that allow it to meet driver hours-of-service logging requirements as well as collect speed, mileage, cargo temperature and other vehicle data. It also offers industry-specific applications for a variety of fleet operations, according to the company.
“Our customers want routing, mobile, and telematics solutions combined as part of one integrated suite,” said Art Mesher, chairman and CEO of Descartes. “Over the past year, we evaluated numerous technologies and businesses to better understand the fit for our customers’ needs. Our customers viewed Telargo’s solutions as a premier, flexible and powerful complement to Descartes’ existing MRM technologies that could help drive their businesses forward.”
