Ray LaHood was sworn in as the sixteenth U.S. Secretary of Transportation on Friday, after being confirmed by the full Senate by voice vote on Thursday. The oath of office was administered by Linda Washington, Assistant Secretary for Administration, before LaHood’s new staff and members of the Department of Transportation transition team.

In addition, Lisa Jackson was sworn in as Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Friday.

"I am honored by the confidence and faith President Obama and the Senate have reposed in me to lead the EPA in confronting the environmental challenges currently before us,” Jackson said. “As Administrator, I will ensure EPA’s efforts to address the environmental crises of today are rooted in three fundamental values: science-based policies and programs, adherence to the rule of law, and overwhelming transparency. By keeping faith with these values and unleashing innovative, forward-thinking approaches – we can further protect neighborhoods and communities throughout the country.”
