ACT: May’s big jump in trailer orders bodes well

June 25, 2014

The trailer industry booked 22,300 net orders in May, according to the most recent “State of the Industry: U.S. Trailers” report published by ACT Research Co. (ACT).

“May net orders rose 52% year over year,” said Frank Maly, ACT’s director– CV Transportation Analysis & Research. “Backlog, build, inventory and shipments were all off from April, but the changes were minimal, all less than 1% on a month-over- month basis.”

He pointed out that what he termed “this stability” in orders ensures “a solid foundation for the industry as we move into the summer and fall build season.”

Trailer production rates should remain “relatively unchanged” over the next few months,” Maly observed. He also said the order board “should continue to support the industry to the next order season this coming fall.”
