Bendix expands online brake school

Sept. 16, 2013

The Bendix On-Line Brake School has been expanded to include more courses covering all aspects of electronics and air brake maintenance.

The online program, offered by Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems, provides a knowledge database and technical resources for drivers, technicians, distributors, fleets and owner-operators.

The website, www.brake-school.com, features a menu of 5- to 7-minute video segments as well as a broad range of other training tools on all aspects of electronics and air brake maintenance. New content – generally uploaded bimonthly – includes courses on air compressors, tire pressure monitoring systems, wheel-end maintenance, and radar alignment for active safety systems.

The online school currently serves more than 7,000 registered users, Bendix said.

“We’ve experienced a steady stream of strong interest in the Bendix On-Line Brake School since day one, and we anticipate an enrollment of more than 12,000 registered users by the end of the year,” said Barbara Gould, Bendix director of communications. “To see so many individuals and companies across the commercial vehicle industry sharing our commitment to training is a great reminder of the value and importance of ongoing technical education.”

Course material on www.brake-school.com is covered in detailed documents, videos, and other interactive presentation modules, allowing students to review the information at their own pace and on their own schedule. Knowledge checks at the end of each course measure what they’ve learned. The password-protected site offers a variety of access levels, most of which enable companies to track their registered technicians’ and employees’ participation and progress.

HDA Truck Pride is among the growing list of companies offering customized training through the Bendix On-Line Brake School. Bendix developed a program specifically for HDA Truck Pride’s members and expert service partners, focusing on product knowledge, technical expertise, diagnostics, and system solutions.

In addition to the Bendix comprehensive and interactive Air Brake Training course, the curriculum covers the full spectrum of braking and active vehicle safety system product topics from overall education on product features and operation to troubleshooting, diagnostics, and maintenance best practices. Other content includes segments addressing highway safety, emissions regulations, and the federal RSD mandate.

“At Bendix, our dedication to vehicle safety and support reaches well beyond the boundaries of the highways we all share,” Gould said. “Helping technicians, drivers, fleets, and owner-operators advance their skill sets is a knowledge investment: We all benefit when well-informed men and women keep commercial vehicles in their best and safest working condition.”
