International Truck & Engine Corp. has begun the “Fuel Economy Challenge,” offering a $1,000 fuel card to any customer who buys a DuraStar equipped with a MaxxForce 7 or MaxxForce DT engine and doesn’t see an increase in fuel economy of at least 7% over their previous truck after six months.

Customers who purchase a qualifying DuraStar between March 6, 2008 and June 30, 2008 are eligible for the fuel card.

According to International, testing at a Robert Bosch facility in South Bend, IN demonstrated that the MaxxForce 7 was up to 13% more fuel efficient than the VT 365 engine, and that the MaxxForce DT was up to 9% more fuel efficient than the DT 466.
