Navistar announced that both SAF-Holland and Jost International fifth wheels are now published options on International truck models.
Available Jost fifth wheels include the company’s cast iron, lightweight, cab actuated release and low lube product offerings. Jost fifth wheels include a simple design with only four moving parts, forged steel locking bar supported on both sides by the coupling to ensure even load distribution and increased surface contact for reduced wear, and a simple mechanism that allows infinite adjustments.
The fifth wheels also include composite cushion ring that absorbs kingpin impacts, reducing king pin and lock wear. It can easily be changed, virtually eliminating the replacement of a more expensive fifth wheel topplate. A low 60 lb. pull force handle is the lowest in the market, Jost said.
“With Jost now available on a major market share manufacturer in Navistar this completes the puzzle for making Jost a simple choice for national fleets who want to standardize on Jost throughout their purchases,” said Rich Carroll, vice president of sales and marketing. “For our fleet customers that prefer the International brand we're pleased that they now have a seamless, cost effective means of specifying our fifth wheels when they purchase the vehicle.”
Navistar will also offer SAF-Holland fifth wheels on its International models. Available now for on-line installation are the FW35, FW17 and FWAL models. Additional part numbers with released feature codes are also available, SAF-Holland said.

The FW35 includes NoLube and LowLube options. The FW17 is the lightest cast-steel fifth wheel, SAF-Holland said. The FWAL is made with Alcoa forged aluminum and is 100 lbs. over competitive fifth wheels, the company added.
