Navistar’s 13L engine receives EPA certification

April 17, 2013

Navistar has taken the next step in its progression to supplying 2010-certified engines to the marketplace with the announcement yesterday that the EPA has certified its 13L heavy-duty big bore engines with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology.

The company also announced that Jack Allen has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer, effective immediately.

With the engine certification, Navistar said that the first customer deliveries of the powerplant, which is certified by EPA at or below the required 0.20 g/bhp-hr NOx, are slated for later this month.

“EPA certification of our proprietary 13L engine with SCR completes our transition to SCR-based technology for our heavy-duty engines,” said Allen. “We’ve reached another milestone in our emissions strategy transition and are on track to deliver our first ProStar units with our SCR-based 13L engines at the end of April.”

The International ProStar with a Cummins ISX 15L engine was introduced in December. The addition of a proprietary 13L offers customers a choice of engines for the vehicle, Navistar said.

Allen, 55, has been president of the company’s North America Truck and Parts business since June 2012.

“Jack is a results-focused leader with a deep understanding of the commercial truck industry and Navistar. He has successfully run nearly every important part of our business at one point during his 31-year career at the company,” said Troy Clarke, Navistar president and CEO. “Together, Jack and I look forward to working with our experienced leadership team and talented group of employees as we take further steps to strengthen our North American core businesses, improve quality and customer satisfaction, drive future profitability, and deliver value to shareholders.”
