Bendix CVS has announced that its SmarTire Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is now available to truck fleets through the network of Bendix OES and independent aftermarket partners across North America.

Bendix said SmarTire monitors the pressure and temperature of each tire on a commercial vehicle to provide real-time tire status information to the driver or maintenance technician. Pressure and temperature information from inside the tire is communicated wirelessly to an on-board receiver, which forwards the information to an easy-to-read, multifunction, two-inch display installed on the vehicle dash, the company noted.

“The product is sold as a complete kit, giving the fleet or owner operator everything needed to easily, quickly, and economically retrofit the system on almost any commercial vehicle application,” said Fred Andersky, director of marketing-controls.

“This system is easily retrofitted for almost any commercial vehicle, so fleets and owner operators alike can start improving ROI [return-on-investment] immediately,” he added. ”When you consider the savings in fuel, maintenance and tire wear, the system can pay for itself in as little as eight months.”

Andersky also pointed out that braking technologies, including antilock braking systems, traction control, electronic stability control and other technologies rely on properly maintained and inflated tires to ensure optimal system performance.
