TAMPA, FL. Denso Sales California Inc., an affiliate of Japan’s Denso Corp., announced its new PA 90S medium-duty starter and expanded coverage for its R5.0 heavy-duty starter here yesterday ahead of Technology & Maintenance Council’s winter meeting.

PA 90S planetary gear reduction starter is designed specifically for medium-duty vehicles powered by 3- to 7-liter diesel engines. “We feel the PA 90S provides our customers with the ideal compact, lightweight yet powerful starter to exceed their expectations,” said Fran Labun, vp of sales. He said the starter’s design allows for easy installation and reduces total vehicle weight and noted the improved torque maximizes starting power and improves cold starting.

  • 12V 3.0 kW
  • Weight: 15.5 lb.
  • Pinion: 8/10 DP
  • Rotation: Clockwise

Labun said the expanded coverage for the R5.0 offset gear reduction starter, which was introduced last July for 10- to 16-liter diesels, includes three new part numbers for Class 8 Cummins, Detroit Diesel and Volvo engines. He noted that with these releases, Denso now offers full-line coverage of all heavy-duty engines.

Key specs of R5.0 include:

12 v 5.0 kW
Weight: Approximately 23 lbs.
