A new all-position wide-base tire for severe-service vehicles has been rolled out by General Truck Tires. The Grabber OA Wide Base is available in a 445/65R22.5 size.

The tire offers a high-carrying capacity and reinforced shoulder to add protection against curbing and abrasions, General said. With 21/32nds of tread depth and a cut-and-chip resistant tread compound, the tire is ideal for severe service and construction applications, the company said.

“The Grabber OA draws on nearly a century of tough General tire heritage to bring advanced durability to our on/off road customers,” said Clif Armstrong, director of marketing. “Now by adding wide base sizes to our product portfolio, these drivers can depend on the Grabber OA Wide Base to handle even higher payloads and help them operate quickly and efficiently in severe conditions.”

The tire carries up to 12,800 lbs. a super single fitment, the company said.

The 445/65R22.5 size is now available for order. Additional sizes of 385/65R22.5 and 425/65R22.5 will be introduced in 2011.
