Hendrickson has announced that its Steertek will be the standard front steer axle on Navistar’s International ProStar and TranStar truck models.
The Steertek is a fabricated axle providing up to 27 lbs. of savings compared to traditional I-beam axles while providing ride stability, the company said.
“We are pleased with International’s decision to upgrade their standard position axle to Steertek, our lightweight alternative to traditional I-beam axles” said Doug Sanford, vp & gm of Hendrickson’s Truck Systems Group. “As truck weights continue to increase, Hendrickson remains committed to reliable, weight-saving options.”
The axle’s rigid, box-shaped cross section resists horizontal, vertical and twisting forces more effectively than I-beams, Hendrickson said. It includes a two-piece knuckle assembly to simpligy kingpin bushing serviceability.
