Pierce Manufacturing Inc., a subsidiary of specialty truck maker Oshkosh Truck Corp., is introducing a new fire truck chassis designed to boost vehicle maneuverability, ergonomic function and equipment storage capacity.
Dubbed the PUC (Pierce Ultimate Configuration), the new design re-locates the fire pump underneath the vehicle’s cab instead of in the mid-section of the truck. This positions the hoses and fire system controls so that the crew can access them more easily, while boosting equipment storage space without increasing the size of the truck, said John Randjelovic, Pierce’s president.
“The PUC is the culmination of countless conversations with fire fighters, thousands of engineering hours, and true, innovative thinking on the part of our development team,” he added. “It makes better use of the available space onboard, which changes the way the truck is used and allows fire fighters to do their job better and more safely.”
