Paccar announced last week that it is tapping India for component sourcing and developing technology for its global operations. However, the truck and engine manufacturer told the India Times it has no current plans to sell or assemble products in the country.

Paccar, which was in India participating in the 11th Auto Expo for the first time, has set up a technical center in Pune in partnership with technology solutions company KPIT Cummins Infosystems Ltd. The work at the technical center has already begun and Paccar said it will hire 200 employees by the end of this year.

“Our focus in India right now is to successfully launch the technical center in Pune to develop solutions for global requirements and introduce ourselves to the supplier base here,” Donald J Schulte, Paccar managing director (India Initiative) told reporters at a press conference.

“We have just started getting into contact with suppliers here... and work at the technical center has also begun. By the end of this year we will hire 200 employees,” Schulte said.
