ArvinMeritor's Commercial Vehicle Systems introduced the Meritor SimilAir, a composite mechanical spring for trailers in linehaul and general service applications.

According to ArvinMeritor, the “composite spring assembly is more durable” than other mechanical springs. Suspensions equipped with the SimilAir “weigh as much as 240 lb. less than the lightest air suspensions and over 100 lb. less than popular mechanical suspensions.” The manufacturer points out than in addition to being more corrosion-resistant than steel springs, the composite springs reduce vibration and noise.

“…SimilAir is a breakthrough technology that delivers the smooth ride operators expect from an air suspensions, without the added maintenance, weight and cost,” said Robert Zirlin, director of product planning and development for North American Trailer Products.

Meritor SimilAir is the result of an agreement between ArvinMeritor and Liteflex, in which ArvinMeritor has exclusive distribution rights for Liteflex truck, trailer and special vehicle composite mechanical springs.
