Sterling Truck announced the availability of a new engine from Cummins for vocational applications at the recent NTEA Work Truck Show in Atlanta. The 8.9L Cummins ISL is built for dump, mixer, LTL and government applications, and features better fuel economy and longer maintenance intervals, according to Sterling. The engine is available for order in both the Sterling Set-Forward L-Line 111-in. BBC and the Set-Back L-Line 113-in. BBC model.
The OEM stated that the ISL offers superior power-to-weight ratios for its class and comes rated for either 1,150 or 1,250 lb.-ft. of torque, as well as a variable geometry turbocharger for enhanced drivability. Options include a compression brake and an available rear engine power takeoff.
